Last week I said “I’d post spoilers after each episode aired” and mentioned a certain scene of Grell’s. Here I’m coming to tell you about it.
I was reminded by someone on Twitter asking “isn’t it about time?”…
Growing old is no excuse for forgetting things!

But still the rough is hardly worth looking at it’s hard to believe a manga artist drew this.
I can see many of you start wondering “Your roughs always look like this?”

The director is a very kind person to pick up such a silly idea.

I think this episode has finished airing in all parts of the country, but for those who haven’t watched it, I’ll hide the spoiler below.

It’s this scene.

[Grell's rough sketch here]
勝手にこうだと思いこんでました。 樞
The text on the picture reads “I automatically pictured it this way. Toboso”

Now, you must be thinking “huh so of all scenes it’s this one!
No? Come on!!! I’m sure you did!!!!
On top of that I was saying just a few days back “look, Kuroshitusji fits quite nicely into tanbi category no?” and now this!!!
I’m really sorry for being a disappointing person.

It’s written in the scenario.
“Grell climbs up the Big Ben using his death scythe.”
And I automatically started imaging him ascending in such a pose.
Well, to be frank with you my brain was taken over by Kitchi Gai.

But at that time how come I came up with this idea as if a matter of course?! (lol)

When it comes to storyboard, the storyboard staff are extremely serious people, so the original idea would not be this pose.
Lay aside the circumstances, which already turned out that way, they would most likely go for a much more practical way that they could have imaged “actually climb up using a chainsaw”.
Nonetheless with Toboso involved, somehow I said “climbing up the wall with death scythe like this right? (serious look)” and proposed this.
And the director said “This will make a great impact! Let’s do it!” and adopted my idea…

…First of all allow me to take this opportunity to apologise.

The storyboard staff, and the director, I’m so sorry! (kneel)

Unusual! Extraordinary! No way you can climb this way!!!
Come to think about it, it’s a puzzle how the idea came to me so naturally “by climbing up the wall with death scythe it must be like this”.
It’s such a mystery I can’t remember what I was thinking when I drew this. But judging from the powerful strokes I probably drew this during work with overflowing force.
It’s very impressive if you watch the anime.
By the way, the “ninnin” sound during that scene is Fukuyama-san’s ad-lib.
The same goes to “Shuta” “Fassa!” when Grell shows up halfway through.

Thanks to the combined effect of the awesome ad-lib and beautiful animation, I’d be glad if that unconventional pose makes you giggle a bit…haha orz

Ahh that mangosteen has nothing to do with me!!! (lol)
